Congratulations to our 2017 Spreading Smiles Winners!

Recently, Inter-State Studio & Publishing Company held their fourth Spreading Smiles Service- Learning Contest. This year, over 500 projects from around the country competed for a chance to be awarded one of three grants of $750, $500, or $250 to enhance their service project.

1st Place Winner

Project Name: The Helping Hand
School Name: Southmoreland Middle School
Scottdale, PA

2017 Spreading Smiles 1st Place Winner

Project Description:

Students are 3-D printing prosthetic hands for children born with symbrachydactyly in this STEM class.  With this money they will be able to obtain a greater variety of materials.

 

 

 

 

 

2nd Place Winner

Project  Name: Smiles Across the Generations
School Name:  Iroquois W. Elementary School
Gilman, IL

2017 Spreading Smiles 2nd Place Winner

 

Project Description:

 

This class practices their empathy skills while visiting the residents of a nearby health care center, many of whom would not have visitors otherwise.  With their awarded grant money, they will be able to cover transportation costs and begin a garden for residents to enjoy. 

 

 

 

 

3rd Place Winner

Project name:  Pizza and Partying with our New Friends
School: Ritenour High School
St. Louis, MO

2017 Spreading Smiles 3rd Place Winner

 

Project Description:

This student leadership group threw a pizza party at a local park for people who are homeless, where they handed out toiletries and learned selflessness.  They will use their grant money to fund another pizza party and provide more basic necessities for people who are homeless.
