How To Catch The Perfect Family Photo

July 12th, 2016

What’s the right time of day to take a family photo? What about coordinated outfits? We could run down a whole list of ideas of places, times, and outfits for your family but there’s really just two requirements to catch the perfect family photo:family photo

  1. Light – You should have enough light present to capture the image you want to take. No one likes a dark photo. Photoshop can help, but it’s not a substitute for a good light source. Whether it’s making sure the living room light is on at Christmas or just being outside on a summer day, be sure you have enough light.
  2. People – Make sure you have everyone in the family in your photo. Some families are scattered across many states, or even many countries, and getting everyone in the same spot, at the same time, can be a very difficult proposition.

Seriously. That’s all you have to have. There is no such thing as the perfect family photo. Having all your loved ones together to celebrate being a family is all you need. Whenever we think about the perfect family photo, we’re reminded of the scene from Modern Family when Claire needs the perfect family portrait. She’s insistent on getting everyone together, wearing all-white outfits, and posed perfectly. Since this is a sitcom, HIJINX ENSUE. The end result is the image you see above. Everyone is laughing, smiling, and covered in mud.

The perfect family photo has nothing to do with where you’re posing or what everyone is wearing. It has everything to do with the people who are in the image. Don’t stress yourself out trying to get a perfectly coordinated image. The fact that your whole family is in the photo, together, is the biggest accomplishment. And if the babies are all smiling, that’s an added bonus.
